DENVER—A 56-year-old man has been arrested in the death of a Denver woman 16 years ago.
Denver police say Carlton Smith was taken into custody Saturday in the slaying of 31-year-old Roslin Gray.
Gray’s former husband and three children found her dead in her home in October 1992. She had been stabbed repeatedly and beaten.
Police say detectives with the Cold Case Unit picked up the investigation in August 2005 and “developed sufficient information to obtain an arrest warrant” for Smith.
No motive has been released. However, detective Sharon Avendano says there’s no indication that Smith and Gray knew each other.
At the time of the slaying, police said Gray used crack cocaine and that her death may have been related to her drug use.
Smith is being held in the Denver City Jail.
