The University of Denver gymnastics team will host Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin at its season-opening meet on Jan. 10 against visiting Nebraska at Hamilton Gymnasium, according to the school.
Last summer in Beijing, Liukin became the third American woman to win an all-around gold medal, following Mary Lou Retton and Carly Patterson.

Adams State to add five sports.
Adams State College recently approved a plan to add five sports to its athletic department — men’s golf, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming, and women’s lacrosse — starting in 2010.
A member of the Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Adams State currently has 14 sports (six men’s and eight women’s teams).
ASC has approximately 375 student-athletes. That number will grow to more than 500 with the new sports, or more than a quarter of the total student body.
Wyoming’s Ogirri snags MWC honor.
The Mountain West Conference on Monday named Wyoming senior guard Sean Ogirri its player of the week after he averaged 25.5 points in two victories last week.
Ogirri, a former standout at Denver East High School, led the Cowboys (9-1) to wins over Sacramento State and Division II Western State. In both games, he hit seven 3-pointers, tying the second-best single- game total in school history.
