A decorated Denver police commander is on suspension with pay over allegations of misconduct, the department confirmed tonight.

Lt. Nayo Arabalo must be at home during his normal shift each day until the conclusion of the internal affairs investigation.

Lt. Ron Saunier, the department’s spokesman, said he could not discuss the nature of the allegations.

“It’s an active, ongoing investigation into allegations that have been brought,” he said.

The investigation has no timetable.

Arabalo, 42, is one of five commanders in Denver’s District 1 in the northwest portion of the city. He oversees police operations during the day shift.

Arabalo is a former vice president of the Denver Police Protective Association.
