DENVER—Winter storms are pounding Colorado’s mountains and more snow is expected.
The National Weather Service says up to 8 inches of snow have fallen in the north-central mountains. Eastbound lanes of Vail Pass on Interstate 70 were reopened in phases Tuesday morning after they were closed for bad weather.
A winter storm warning is in effect for high elevations of the eastern San Juan Mountains and the La Garita Mountains.
The Wolf Creek Ski Area was reporting 16 inches of new snow in the 24 hours, Steamboat reported 20 and Crested Butte reported 18.
Forecasts of strong winds with gusts up to 50 mph raised concerns about blowing and drifting snow.
Up to 4 inches of snow was expected in parts of the Denver metro area Tuesday.
