DILLON, Colo.—It’s a snowboarder’s dream in the Colorado mountain this holiday week, but officials are using the heavy snows to remind folks they could face citations for skiing where they’re not supposed to.

So far three people have been cited for violating Colorado’s Ski Safety Act, which allows officials to cite skiiers for ducking ropes and using closed runs. Violators face fines and loss of their skiing passes.

Officials say runs are closed at resorts because of safety concerns, such as explosives placed under the snow for preventive avalanche blasting.
