The entire town of Milliken was without water for about two hours this morning, and the outage lingered into the afternoon for some neighborhoods, as crews sought the cause of falling water pressure.

As of 3 p.m. only the industrial section of town, as well as homes in the Settlers Village neighborhood, were still without water, said Caree Rinebarger, the town’s administrative assistant.

Those areas were expected to be restored shortly as crews continued to look for a break that might have caused the falling water pressure that began Saturday afternoon, she said.

Officials made the decision Sunday morning to shut down the water as briefly as possible to test for the break in different parts of town, then restore water service there, she said.

The town delivered bottled water to the 20-unit Dove Valley Senior Community in Milliken and made it available at public buildings, while the mayor and other town officials came in to answer phone calls about the outage, she said.

The Weld County town of about 3,000 people has 1,900 water taps, Rinebarger said.
