LINCOLN, Neb.—Yvonne Turner scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half, making two crucial free throws with 18 seconds left, and Nebraska came from behind to defeat No. 24 Arizona State 62-58 on Sunday.

Catheryn Redmon and Kaitlyn Burke added 12 points apiece for the Cornhuskers, who took their first lead with 2:48 left on Turner’s layup.

The Sun Devils (8-4) regained the lead on a free throw by Briann January, but Cory Mongomery’s jumper with 1:35 left put the Huskers in front to stay.

Turner’s late free throws put Nebraska (9-3) up 61-58, and Dominique Kelley hit one more from the line for the final margin.

“It is a great example of playing the game for 40 minutes,” Nebraska coach Connie Yori said. “I thought we played with great energy from start to finish. I thought we came out and played hard, we just didn’t hit any shots early. After we finally hit a shot, we just kept battling and found a way to win.”

Danielle Orsillo had 16 points and Sybil Dosty 14 points and 11 rebounds for ASU. Dymond Simon, back in the lineup after missing the Dec. 21 win over Xavier with a foot injury, added 12 points and five assists.

The Huskers missed their first 13 shots while falling behind 18-2, and they still trailed by 14 late in the half. They shot 54 percent after halftime (15-for-28) after making just 28 percent (7-of-25) in the opening 20 minutes.

Nebraska’s Nikki Bober blocked four shots and Redmon swatted three.

Turner’s performance came in just 15 minutes while battling foul trouble going head-to-head with January and Simon.

January, averaging a team-high 14 points for ASU, managed just 5 points and 5 assists before fouling out in the final minute.

ASU, which started the week No. 2 in the nation in 3-point field goal shooting percentage (.423), made just 30 percent (3-of-10).

It was Arizona State’s third loss to a Big 12 opponent. The Sun Devils also lost to current No. 4 Texas and current No. 5 Oklahoma.
