BOULDER, Colo.—Colorado Lottery officials say the person who bought the winning ticket for a $5.3 million jackpot this month in Boulder has claimed the prize in the name of a trust and will receive the winnings in a lump sum.
Lottery spokeswoman Erika Gonzalez says the winner, a Boulder resident, opted to collect the money in the name of a trust so they could keep their identity private.
The winner cashed in the ticket Tuesday. Collecting the money in a lump sum rather than an annuity means the winner will get $2.7 million, rather than $5.3 million over 25 years.
Gonzalez says the $2.7 million jackpot is before federal and state taxes, which withhold 29 percent. That leaves the winner with about $1.9 million.
The winning ticket was sold two weeks ago at a King Soopers store. Gonzalez says the odds of matching all six numbers are 1 in 5,245,786.
