A father and son from Minnesota who got stuck while snowmobiling in the Colorado mountains have been found and rescued.

John Rick, 49, and his son, Tim, 20, were rescued early this afternoon after spending a cold night in the high country, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

The two men had been in contact with family members by text messages, saying that they were stuck but had started a fire to keep warm.

Before the rescue, the two were last seen Tuesday afternoon in the Pony Park Area of Arapaho National Forest in Grand County.

Grand County Search and Rescue members had searched for them from midnight until 4 a.m. this morning and then resumed the search at 7:30 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office said. At least 14 searchers were involved.

The pair from Cold Spring, Minn., said they were stuck in deep snow. Searchers believed the men were stuck on the south side of the Bowen Gulch Drainage.

Early Monday, a snowmobiler in Grand County was rescued after his sled plunged through the ice of Grand Lake. Josh Rigby, 38, of Santa Fe was not injured in the plunge.

On Saturday, two snowmobilers were killed by an avalanche in Grand County.

The avalanche, near Gravel Mountain in the Grand Lake area, claimed the life of paramedic Brian Kopp, 38, of Larkspur, an eight-year veteran of South Metro Fire Rescue, and Mark Goetz, 19, of Arvada.
