The State University of New York-Buffalo owns the state of Colorado.
One night after beating Colorado in the final second, Buffalo didn’t need any drama to drop Colorado State 67-53 in late Tuesday’s championship game of the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu.
The timely shooting that delivered a championship game berth to CSU was left on the beach somewhere. The Rams hit only 33.9 percent for the night, and no starters reached double figures. Guard Marcus Walker, coming off the bench for the third straight game, led the Rams with 12 points and made the all-tournament team.
Tied 34-all at intermission, Buffalo made a 13-3 run midway through the second half. The Bulls led 62-49 with 3:45 remaining.
CSU left Islands with a 5-9 record heading into the Mountain West Conference opener at TCU Saturday. Buffalo improved to 8-4. The Rams enter league play with the MWC’s only losing record in nonconference games.
