The driver of a car that had been stolen only minutes before drove the vehicle into a tree Saturday in southwestern Denver and ended up killing himself and seriously injuring a passenger.

Police said they were dispatched to the crash scene at Lowell Boulevard and Amherst Avenue at 4:57 a.m. after receiving a 911 call.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was transported to Denver Health Medical Center with serious injuries, and her condition was unknown Saturday evening.

Traffic investigation detectives determined that the vehicle was stolen from the 500 block of Quieto Way at 4:44 a.m. Police suspect the vehicle was left running and unattended in a driveway when it was stolen.

Police said the driver and the passenger appear to be Latino and in their late teens or early twenties. Neither had any identification.

The female has a “303” tattoo on her left hand, a star tattoo on her ring finger and a tattoo around her neck with a misspelling that states, “Only God Can Jugde.”

Police are asking people who have information about the two to contact them at 720-913-2000.
