The Wyoming swimming teams participated in, and won, an unusual meet — an outdoor one, the Cal-Irvine Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on Saturday.
The meet also was unusual in that it divided sprint and distance events. The Cowboys won both, and the Cowgirls won the distance races and finished third in the sprints. The Cowboys totaled 308 points to win the men’s meet over the host Anteaters (227) and Cal State Northridge (70). The Cowgirls finished with 183 points to win the women’s meet over the Anteaters (107), Washington State (81) and UCLA (65).
“The meet started out slow for us, but as the meet progressed and the temperature got warmer we performed a lot better,” Wyoming coach Tom Johnson said. “The temperature started at 59 degrees, but got warmer as the meet went on. I thought the distance events went well for us today, especially the 500 freestyle and the 400 IM (individual medley).”
Wyoming freshman Marshall Dilworth won two sprints, the 200-meter IM (1:58.61) and the 200 backstroke (1:55.70).

One night after shutting out the Wichita Thunder, the Colorado Eagles’ defense was not the same as the Eagles lost a Central Hockey League game 7-2 to split the weekend series at the Kansas Coliseum.
Erik Adams and Adam Hogg scored for the Eagles.
• Brent Cullaton put the Rocky Mountain Rage on the scoreboard in the second period with an unassisted, short-handed goal, Nathan O’Nabigon and Pat Sutton followed with goals and the Rage went on to earn a 4-1 victory over the Amarillo Gorillas at the Broomfield Event Center.
