WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid defended his right to block the Senate appointment of former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris, but he didn’t close the door entirely to Burris’ eventually getting the job.

The Nevada Democrat has asserted that Burris is tainted because he was chosen by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

“Anything can happen,” said Reid, D-Nev., on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” But he described the chances of Burris joining the Senate as “very difficult.”

Reid said he will meet Wed nesday with Burris, who may be in Washington today.

Meanwhile, about 60 ministers called together by Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush met in a Chicago church to show support for Burris.
