GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Authorities say a 40-year-old Grand Valley man who escaped from the Mesa County jail four months ago has been apprehended in Mexico.

Shane Edward Johnson escaped Sept. 9, just days before he was to be sentenced to life in prison for a series of crimes that included burglary and auto theft.

Mexican authorities notified the Mesa County sheriff’s office on Sunday that Johnson had been arrested.

Based on leads developed during the investigation, sheriff’s officials had been working with the Colorado attorney general’s office, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, the California Department of Justice and Mexican authorities to locate Johnson in the area where he was captured.

Authorities say Johnson’s wife, 46-year-old Marilynne Ann Johnson of Colorado Springs, also was arrested. She is suspected of helping him escape.
