LITTLETON — An elderly woman was killed this evening when the shuttle bus from her retirement center crashed into a pole in the parking lot of the Aspen Grove shopping center near South Santa Fe Boulevard and West Mineral Avenue.
Police say the van was taking 19 senior citizens from the RiverPointe Senior Community to Champps restaurant at the shopping center when it hit the pole at about 5 p.m.
A woman on the bus was getting up when the wreck occurred and hit her head on a hand rail inside the van. The woman, reported to be about 90 years old, was taken to an area hospital, where she died.
Lt. Mike Broadhead said nine other Riverpointe residents riding in the van were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said it was a low-speed crash and it is still under investigation.
