STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—A single-engine turboprop plane crash that killed a father and son appeared to have been caused by a lack of control, according to a preliminary investigation.
Air safety investigator Tim LeBaron of the National Transportation Safety Board said the Pilatus PC-12 plane was upside down and moving at a high rate of speed when it crashed into the ground Sunday morning and caught fire.
The pilot, 54-year-old William Rooney, and his son, 26-year-old William Patrick Rooney III, died in the crash. They were heading home to Chino, Calif.
LeBaron said they’re trying to determine what caused the loss of control.
