LITTLETON, Colo.—A woman is dead after the shuttle van she was riding in crashed into a pole in Littleton, causing her to fall and hit her head.

Police say the van was in the parking lot of a shopping center near Santa Fe Boulevard and Mineral Avenue when the accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say the driver was taking 19 senior citizens from the RiverPointe Senior Community to a restaurant at the shopping center when he got distracted and hit the pole.

A woman on the bus was getting up when the wreck occurred and hit her head on a hand rail inside the van. She was taken to an area hospital, where she died.

Lt. Mike Broadhead says nine other Riverpointe residents riding in the van were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

No names were released.
