The U.S. Department Housing and Urban Development on Wednesday presented the state of Colorado a $34 million check to help neighborhoods cope with foreclosures.

Funds can go to buy properties in foreclosure and then tear them down or rehab them. The funds also can be used to place low- to moderate-income homebuyers into vacant homes through down-payment and closing-cost aid.
