DENTON, TexasGREELEYCHENEY, Wash. — The University of Denver men built a 21-point first-half lead against North Texas, but the Mean Green rallied for a 69-62 victory at the Super Pit on Thursday night.

Freshman guard Brian Stafford and junior forward Nate Rohnert each scored 15 points to pace the Pioneers (7-10, 2-4 Sun Belt).

“For the third straight road game, we gave ourselves the opportunity to win, but we just have not gotten over that hurdle,” DU coach Joe Scott said.

North Texas (10-7, 3-3) outscored Denver 47-23 in the second half, even though DU shot 57.9 percent for the game.

N. Colorado 75, E. Washington 68 Jabril Banks scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Bears (7-11 overall, 3-2 Big Sky), and Will Figures pitched in 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Women

N. Colorado 55, E. Washington 53 The Bears (8-8, 2-1 Big Sky) almost gave away an 11-point second-half lead but made enough free throws down the stretch to preserve the win. Courtney Stoer-mer made 4-of-5 3-pointers and led UNC with 25 points.
