In an attempt to field a stronger, faster team, the Rapids on Thursday selected George Mason University forward Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe with the 28th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft in St. Louis. It was the first of six picks for the Rapids.

Adjeman-Pamboe was an all-Colonial Athletic Association player with nine goals and seven assists last season. The 28th pick was the latest the Rapids have selected in the MLS draft.

The Rapids began the day with the No. 20 pick, but traded it to the Chicago Fire in exchange for the rights to goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Colorado also took Steward Ceus, the America East goalkeeper of the year at Albany, with the 37th pick; forwards Ross Schunk and Jordan Seabrook, and defenders Henry Kalungi and Michael Holody.

• University of Denver standout forward Kyle Christensen, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation player of the year last season, was selected by Chivas USA with the 35th overall pick. He joins Matt Harrell, the Rapids’ sixth-round pick in 2002, as the only Pioneers drafted in the MLS.

• Chris Salvaggione, a former All-Colorado selection for Lewis-Palmer High School who played at Charlotte, was drafted in the third round, the 38th overall selection, by New England.

Wyoming player to transfer.

Lauren Curtis, an outside hitter on the Wyoming volleyball team, is transferring to Montana State for the 2009 season, MSU coach Sara Schaub said. The 6-foot-2 Curtis, of Redmond, Wash., played sparingly for the Cowgirls as a freshman, seeing action in eight matches.
