A 90-year-old woman who died in a shuttle-bus accident was identified this morning by authorities.

Margaret Seaman was killed Wednesday evening when a bus from her retirement center crashed into a pole in the parking lot of the Aspen Grove shopping center near South Santa Fe Drive and West Mineral Avenue.

Police said the van was taking 19 residents of the RiverPointe Senior Community to Champps restaurant when the accident happened at about 5 p.m.

Seaman was getting up when the crash occurred and hit her head on a handrail inside the van.

“Seaman died almost instantly from a broken neck,” according to the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

Another person on the bus suffered four broken ribs, police said.

Police said eight RiverPointe residents riding in the bus were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Details on their conditions were not available.

RiverPointe declined comment this morning, as did Seaman’s family.

The bus driver, Thomas Giampaolo, 65, has been cited for careless driving resulting in death, a misdemeanor, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.
