MOSCOW — Thousands attended a rally in Chechnya’s capital of Grozny on Tuesday to protest the killing in Moscow of a prominent human-rights lawyer who had represented the family of a Chechen girl killed by a former Russian officer.
A masked gunman assassinated the lawyer, Stanislav Markelov, on Monday. Anastasia Baburova, a journalist who was with Markelov, also was killed. Officials have identified no suspects.
