Scarf tricks
With so many activities held outdoors in the cold, scarves, hats and gloves were the fashion accents of choice during the inaugural.
Hat attack
And when it came to chapeaus, we couldn’t take our eyes off of Aretha Franklin’s big bow-bedecked hat as she sang after the swearing-in. One wag said it looked like it took a bolt of gray flannel to fashion the topper.
Shutter bug
Mufflers and hats aside, the accessory that everyone carried in Washington was a camera, and that included Malia Obama, 10, who was seen snapping away as her father gave speeches or entertainers sang. Can’t wait to see her albums.
West dressed
Denver damsels are making their fashion presence known in D.C. this week. Helen Thorpe packed a silk organza gown for the festivities. The Marisa Baratelli dress from Molly’s was a gift from Thorpe’s husband, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. Store owner Molly Broeren also dressed Susan Daggett, wife of new U.S. senator-designate Michael Bennet; Mary Kenney, who’s married to political consultant David Kenney; Nancy Freudenthal, wife of Wyoming Gov. David Freudenthal; and Kathryn Boswell, Nancy Freudenthal’s assistant.
