GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—One person is dead after a seven-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in western Colorado, and authorities say the victim was a pedestrian.

The pileup occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday on westbound I-70 east of the Palisade exit, about 11 miles east of Grand Junction.

The Colorado State Patrol says the driver of a Dodge Ram lost control, hit a barrier, rotated and hit another barrier. A westbound Kia sedan then struck the pickup and its passenger who’d stepped outside.

Authorities say three more crashes stemming from the first two collisions occurred shortly thereafter.

The passenger from the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. No name was immediately released.

Two other people were hurt. They were taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.
