A late-blooming prospect from the Bay Area has given Colorado its third oral commitment from an offensive lineman.

According to Internet recruiting sites, David Bakhtiari, a 6-foot-4, 266-pounder from Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif., picked Colorado over Washington, Utah and Texas-El Paso.

Bakhtiari joins Jack Harris (6-6, 270) of Chaparral High School in Parker and Gus Handler (6-4, 265) of Barrington (Ill.) High School as prospects for CU’s offensive line.

Barely registering on the radar of recruiting services, Bakhtiari received just one star from and no stars from . But recruiting interest in him was heating up. Washington coaches extended Bakhtiari an offer earlier this week.

Bakhtiari told . that he was impressed with CU head coach Dan Hawkins, offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich and acting offensive line coach Brad Bedell. Bedell, who played six seasons in the NFL and is a CU alumnus, has served the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Colorado under offensive line coach Jeff Grimes, who recently left CU for a position on the Auburn staff.

The addition of Bakhtiari gives Colorado at least 16 commitments. National signing day is Feb. 4.
