The injury to Colorado freshman guard Ryan Kelley may not be as serious as initially feared.

Speaking today on the Big 12 teleconference, CU men’s basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik said there does not appear to be any cartilage or ligament damage to Kelley’s left knee. Kelley dislocated the kneecap in practice on Thursday and did not play Saturday in the overtime loss to Kansas State.

An MRI is scheduled for Wednesday.

“Ryan has been doing rehab to the knee; he rode the (stationary) bike a little bit yesterday,” Bzdelik said. “He walked the (arena) steps a little bit. He engaged in some strengthening exercises.

“He seemed to be feeling better. That’s why we are holding (on any announcement) until we get a more specific read on it. But, fortunately, it doesn’t seem to be as serious as we thought right from the start. I think he’s going to be fine.”

Kelley has come off the bench to score 38 points in 13 games, including a high of 19 in 107-62 loss at Missouri. A native Southern Californian, Kelley is the nephew of former CU standout Vince Kelley (1981-84).
