STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — Sweden has reserved a place for Peter Forsberg in the LG Hockey Games in case the injury-plagued forward feels well enough to play.
Sweden coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson said Monday he had been in touch with Forsberg, asking him whether he wanted to join the team for the Feb. 5-8 tournament.
“He couldn’t make a decision right now, but we’ve agreed to keep a spot open until Friday. That’s when he’ll give an answer,” Gustafsson was quoted in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
Forsberg earlier this month said he was back on the ice in his hometown of Ornskoldsvik, testing his ailing right foot to see whether he will make a last attempt at a comeback.
The 35-year-old forward made a late-season return to the Colorado Avalanche last year, but injuries kept him out of nine of 18 regular-season NHL games and three of four games in the second round of the playoffs.
