Perhaps the Broncos had a role in Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt’s decision to pick Kurt Warner as his starting QB. Whisenhunt said Monday he picked Warner, right, on the Friday the Cardinals’ preseason ended, staying up all night trying to decide whether Warner or Matt Leinart should be the starter the next week.

It just so happened that that sleepless night followed the Cardinals’ preseason game against the Broncos. Warner started and was 4-for-4 for 48 yards against the Broncos’ second-string defense. In relief, Leinart played well — 10-for-14, 177 yards, one TD — but Whisenhunt couldn’t shake the feeling Warner had won the battle.
