Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is not on the Yankees’ payroll. But with a base salary of $17.5 million per year, he fits right in.
Selig, right, received a raise of about $3 million in 2007, according to Major League Baseball’s latest tax return. His salary was more than all but three major-leaguers: Alex Rodriguez at $23 million, Derek Jeter at $22 million and Jason Giambi at $21.5 million (all Yankees in 2007).
Part of Selig’s tax filing included $422,590 in expense account and other allowances, up about $282,000 from the previous fiscal year. That’s a lot of peanuts and Cracker Jacks.
Selig took over as full-time commissioner in 1992. His current term runs through 2012.
