DENVER—A bill introduced in the state Senate would allow illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates at Colorado colleges and universities.

The measure (Senate Bill 170) is sponsored by Democratic Sen. Chris Romer of Denver.

Regardless of immigration status, any student who attended a Colorado high school for three years could qualify for in-state tuition and financial aid. They would have to enroll in college within five years of graduating from high school.

Students could also qualify for in-state rates if they obtain a general equivalency diploma in Colorado and then enroll in college within five years.
