The former chief executive of Pueblo Goodwill Industries is under investigation by the Pueblo Police Department, Sgt. Kenny Rider said today.

Rider said that in a complaint filed with the department on Friday, David Skul, vice chairman of the Pueblo Goodwill board of directors, alleged that former CEO Debbie Diaz embezzled $18,000.

The allegation is that she “stole and misused the money at the same time,” said Rider.

He said the complaint was made after Goodwill officials hired an accountant to look at Pueblo Goodwill Industries’ books. After finding irregularities, Goodwill filed the complaint with police, said Rider.

Rider said he has assigned a detective to investigate the allegations and that the investigation may take a substantial amount of time because of the long “paper trail” that has to be unraveled.
