Getting your player ready...

Matt Holliday continues to collect more hardware than Home Depot.

Four months after playing his last game for the Rockies and three months after being traded to Oakland, the three-time All-Star was named Colorado’s player of the year for the 2008 season by the local Baseball Writers Association of America chapter today.

Holliday hit .321 with 25 home runs and 88 RBIs.

Former closer Brian Fuentes, now with the Angels, pulled off a bit of an upset, garnering pitcher of the year honors. Fuentes posted 30 saves with a 2.73 ERA and was nearly unhittable the second half of the season. However, Aaron Cook won 16 games and made his first all-star game.

Ian Stewart, the obvious and deserving candidate, won rookie of the year honors. Stewart, who will compete for playing time in left field and third base this spring, batted .259 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs in 81 games. Clint Barmes was named the “Good Guy,” an award given to the player who deals best with the media.
