Junior golfers will get special attention at the annual Denver Golf Expo, which begins a three-day run at 10 a.m. Friday in the Denver Merchandise Mart.
Youths 16-and-under will be admitted free. After participating in the “Colorado Golf Experience” which offers full-swing, chipping and putting lessons, the juniors will receive a gift bag that includes coupons for free rounds of golf (with a paying adult) at 10 par-3 courses along the Front Range.
“As we know, the number of rounds of golf nationally has been flat for a long time, and they’re building more courses everywhere,” Denver Golf Expo manager Mark Cramer said. “So the lifeblood of the industry is in developing new golfers. We want to help.”
Despite the downturned economy, this year’s expo has attracted a record 150 exhibitors manning 250 booths, providing discounted greens fees, golf equipment and apparel. Game-improvement seminars are scheduled throughout the three days.
Also, the Alfred S. Bourne Trophy that goes to the winner of the annual Senior PGA Championship will be on display. The 71st Senior PGA Championship will be held May 25-30, 2010 at Colorado Golf Club in Parker.
Expo hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors.
