The same week Pat Summitt became the first college basketball coach to reach 1,000 career victories, Holy Family’s Mike McLaughlin was the fastest to win 400. He won his 400th game Tuesday night, beating University of Sciences 64-47. He is 400-59 in 14 years coaching at the Division II school, reaching the milestone four games faster than Louisiana Tech coach Leon Barmore did. McLaughlin, who holds the Philadelphia school’s record for 3-point proficiency (57.7 percent), spent three seasons as the team captain of the Washington Generals, the Harlem Globetrotters’ regular opponent.
