GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Authorities say two snowmobilers spent the night in near whiteout conditions before searchers found them near the western Colorado town of Rifle.
The Garfield County sheriff’s office says the 47-year-old man and his 17-year-old son were supposed to be home by 4 p.m. Sunday after riding up a trail, but they were still missing at 9 p.m.
Authorities say a search and rescue team was organized because a snow storm had moved in, and the two snowmobilers didn’t have sufficient gear for the weather. The searchers looked for the father and son until whiteout conditions forced them to stop at about 3 a.m.
The sheriff’s office says the missing snowmobilers were located at about 6:30 a.m. Monday after the search resumed. The two had built a fire and were in good condition when they were found.
