LAKEWOOD — In a unanimous vote Monday night, the Lakewood City Council approved an ordinance that licenses escorts and escort services.
The law is aimed at controlling prostitution by requiring escorts and services to be photographed, fingerprinted and undergo a criminal- history check.
Police say that they expect few will pay the $50 license fee but that the law gives them another tool to investigate prostitution-related crimes. The penalty for being convicted of not having a license is a maximum of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine, or both.
