DENVER—A 32-year-old woman police said crashed into a car near former President Jimmy Carter during the Democratic National Convention has pleaded guilty to drunken driving.

Police said Amber Voiles almost collided with Carter’s motorcade on Aug. 26 in Denver before she backed up and smashed into a parked car and drove away. Voiles’ December plea was reported Saturday by KCNC-TV.

KCNC reported Voiles was in town from New York working as a production assistant for Mayor John Hickenlooper’s cousin, George Hickenlooper, who was filming a documentary. The police officer who stopped her a block away said Voiles claimed to have been “partying with Mayor Hickenlooper all week.”

John Hickenlooper’s office said in a statement that Voiles did not “party” with the mayor.

“She is not and has never been an employee of the city,” said mayoral spokeswoman Sue Cobb.

Cobb said Voiles was part of a film crew that covered convention-related meetings and events attended by the mayor, but that was the extent of the connection to him.

Voiles has an unlisted number in New York. Her attorney, Abe Hutt, told KCNC he would not comment on the case.

Voiles was ordered to pay $757 in court costs. It wasn’t immediately known what other punishment, if any, she received for pleading guilty to driving under the influence.

She initially faced charges of careless driving, failure to report an accident, failure to give notice in connection with an accident and hit and run. Those charges were dismissed as part of her plea agreement.
