DENVER—A man arrested last month on charges of breaking into a home while a young girl was there alone now faces charges in a 1995 rape case.
The Denver district attorney’s office says 43-year-old Byron Gay has been charged with first-degree sexual assault in the Oct. 24, 1995, rape of a 19-year-old woman who was home alone in Denver.
Gay was identified as a suspect through the work of Denver’s Cold Case Project.
He was arrested Jan. 14 after a break-in at another Denver home, where a young girl was home alone. He faces burglary and menacing charges in that case.
Gay remains in the Denver County Jail on $500,000 bond in the 1995 case and $50,000 bond in the January case.
He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Thursday morning.
