The Denver Zoo has added to its giraffe herd with the birth of a 175-pound boy named Pongo.

He was born Sunday and is already out and about with his mother, Masika, the zoo said in a news release. He will nurse for about six months.

Pongo is currently six foot, two inches tall. During the first two years of his life, the zoo expects him to double in height to almost 12 feet.

The herd also includes his father, Dikembe, and three other giraffes.

Giraffes can grow up to 17 feet tall, the release said. An adult male can weigh from 2,420 to 4,215 pounds.
