A volunteer girls high school soccer coach and a father of two was arrested today on suspicion of Internet child luring for allegedly having online sexual discussions with a person he believed was an underaged teenager, the Jefferson County district attorney’s office said.
Oscar Herrera, 28, allegedly asked in an online chat for the teen — actually investigator Mike Harris — to send him “naughty pics” among other lurid conversations, according to prosecutors.
Herrera was a volunteer assistant coach at Greeley West High School but has been notified that he won’t be allowed back with the team this spring, said Evans-Greeley School District spokesman Roger Fiedler. Herrera was not a teacher.
He was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Center, where he will be held without bail until a court appearance Friday morning, according to the DA’s office.
The DA’s office has until Thursday to determine the charges, but Herrera is being held on suspicion of Internet luring of a child and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
