LOVELAND, Colo.—Investigators say a property owner’s debris fire started a 52-acre wildfire west of Loveland.

Larimer County sheriff’s spokeswoman Eloise Campanella said Friday that David McMurtrey of rural Loveland was issued a summons on a charge of firing wood and prairie.

Campanella says the fire in the debris pile wasn’t completely extinguished and reignited in high winds on Tuesday. Campanella says McMurtrey had a permit to burn the debris. she says he has been cooperating with investigators.

No phone listing could be found for McMurtrey.

The fire was fully contained Thursday.
