GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—A Littleton truck driver has pleaded not guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide in a 2008 crash that killed two people.
Mark Chamness entered his plea Thursday in Garfield County District Court. Judge Denise Lynch is expected to set a trial date Friday.
Chamness was charged after two people died and a third was hurt in a Jan. 8, 2008, wreck near Catherine Store, about 25 miles west of Aspen and 4 miles east of Carbondale.
Authorities say he was hauling a modular trailer when he stopped on Colorado 82 to make a left turn, blocking both westbound lanes.
A westbound vehicle then struck the trailer, killing the driver, 21-year-old Elizeo Trinidad, and a passenger, 23-year-old Noemy Ramos. Another passenger was critically injured.
Chamness’ attorney Thomas Silverman declined to discuss the case Thursday, saying only, “The not guilty plea says it all.”
