Steamboat Springs nordic combined skier Todd Lodwick, a four-time Olympian who returned to the sport this season after a two-year absence, is in first place midway through the first nordic combined event at the world championships in Liberec, Czech Republic.
Lodwick had the fastest time in today’s cross country race and teammate Bill Demong, a 2007 world championships silver medalist, was third fastest. The ski jumping that was to have concluded today’s competition was postponed until Friday because of adverse weather.
Lodwick is the winningest American ever on the nordic combined World Cup, but never won an Olympics or world championships medal.
Three more nordic combined competitions will be held at the world championships next week.
