SOMERSET, Pa.—Officials are pledging to dedicate a memorial to the 40 passengers and crew killed on United Flight 93 at the western Pennsylvania crash site by the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, Gov. Ed Rendell, National Park Service officials and members of Families of Flight 93 signed a letter Friday committing to the schedule.
The plane was traveling from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco when it was diverted by hijackers and crashed. Jason Dahl of Ken Caryl Ranch, Colo., was a co-pilot.
Construction has yet to begin, but a major hurdle was recently overcome when a landowner agreed to sell a key piece of land.
