COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Investigators say a teenager’s bragging is what tied him to the beating death of a 54-year-old homeless man in Colorado Springs.

An arrest affidavit released Tuesday says 18-year-old Taylor Gwaltney told friends a day after the beating that he was a “top story” in the news and was responsible for David Doyle’s death.

Doyle was found dead of head trauma Feb. 5 on a pedestrian bridge.

The affidavit says Gwaltney told friends he saw the man while walking to a friend’s house. He then allegedly grabbed a baseball bat at the house, went back to the bridge and beat Doyle with it.

Police arrested Gwaltney on Friday after receiving a tip. He is being held without bail in the El Paso County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
