EAGLE, Colo.—Interstate 70 is back open in both directions in Glenwood Canyon after a boulder the size of a small pickup crashed onto the eastbound lanes of the roadway early Tuesday.
Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Stacey Stegman says the huge rock did not strike any vehicles when it tumbled about 1 a.m., and did not cause any significant damage to the interstate.
No one was hurt.
Stegman says workers used a front-end loader to clear the boulder from the road in about two hours.
Smaller rocks fell onto westbound lanes of I-70 near the Canyon Lake tunnel. Crews cleared the westbound lanes in about a half hour.
One eastbound lane reopened about an hour after the slide, while the other lane remained closed until about 3:10 a.m.
