The city manager of Black Hawk announced his resignation today saying he wants to care for his mother’s health needs.
In a letter to the city council, City Manager Richard Lessner said he will work until April 1.
“The City of Black Hawk would like to thank Rick for his nearly five years of service,” Black Hawk Mayor David Spellman said. “While we will be sad to see him go, his decision to put his family first is a good indication of the type of person he is.”
Lessner will continue to live in Black Hawk where city leaders have approved millions of dollars in improvements for their homes and in purchases of their properties with state preservation funds.
Black Hawk currently accounts for 71 percent of the state’s gaming revenues.
Spellman and the city’s aldermen will decide whether to hire an interim city manager.
