Obviously, there’s something about this state. Akron’s Tom Meyer (girls track and field), Ponderosa’s Tim Ottmann (wrestling) and Cherry Creek’s Kirk Price (boys tennis) have been selected national coaches of the year. The National Federation of State High School Associations coaches group has placed the three Coloradans among 18 others as tops from the 2007-08 school year. Meyer has multiple championships and more than 30 years on the job. Ottmann, right, all but built a program from scratch and headed six consecutive team championships (he retired after the 2007-08 season). And Price has directed the country’s premier program, which also had the second-best winning streak in the history of high school sports: 316 consecutive matches, ending in 2000.
