DENVER—State lawmakers haven’t been able to agree on how much to spend on tourism promotion during the recession.
Colorado originally planned to spend $20 million on promoting tourism and the arts this year but lawmakers are looking at rolling that back to help balance the budget.
The House has backed spending $15 million but the Senate wants to add on some extra money from gaming taxes. With gaming revenue down, Republican Sen. Al White of Hayden says that would probably mean a total of $18 million.
Senators voted Wednesday to try negotiate a solution with the House.
Democratic Sen. Rollie Heath of Boulder says Colorado needs to keep spending money to compete with Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico.
