DENVER—A Colorado group is starting work mapping out a plan to make sure every penny of the $2 billion purse coming to help the economy is spent wisely.
A board appointed by Gov. Bill Ritter to oversee stimulus spending starts work in Denver Thursday afternoon. It’s made up of business leaders, state economic development officials and lawmakers.
Colorado is one of a handful of states where the governor can spend federal dollars without oversight unless the money specifically requires it. But Ritter appointed to board to ensure accountability for how the money is spent.
The dollars will go to everything from road repairs to food stamps to job training to school repairs. Democrats have said it could create tens of thousands of Colorado jobs.
